They're actually "insects"

"This is the most awesomest day ever!" is what BG was yelling as she saw her butterflies for the first time, "and they even grew flowers!"

Well actually I put those flowers in there as a snack, but it truly was awesome to come home to 5 fully "hatched" butterflies. 

And when I commented... "We sure do have a house full of bugs!" 

BG corrected me, "Actually mama, they're insects -- Not bugs." 

Needless to say, between the larve, pupas, ladybugs, and butterflies -- we do have a house full of somethin'!

Happy Heart Day!

10 years ago I hosted a girly singles party to celebrate this big day of love, this year most of the guests were under the age of 10 :)  Times do change, but in both cases, the pink & red, candies, cards, wine, and fun were flowing.

Hallmark History Lesson

This morning BG opened a Valentine and a dollar bill popped out (a special tradition from Great Aunt Sharon). 

BG said, "Look mom!  It's George Washington!" 

Stunned by this announcement I asked, "well how did you know that was George Washington bug?"  

BG said matter-of-factly, "well I could tell by his curly hair."

"Oh. Okay," I said a bit puzzled.

 "But he died." she said.

"Yes. He did. A long time ago." I said.

"I wish he wasn't so died." BG said.

"Well BG, do you know what made George Washington so special that he's on our dollar bill?" I asked.

She thought for a minute then said "He protects the people."

Yeah, you're right!  A president's job IS to protect his people." I said.

Then with a sad look BG said, "But he died so he can't do his job anymore."

 

Thank you Aunt Sharon for prompting this morning's history lesson and with such perfect timing -- as Monday is President's day!  Thank you presidents, for protecting your people  :)

 

Seeing Spots

Not only is the weather outside showing signs of spring, ladybug land in the living room is too! Check out our FIRST lucky little lady bug transformation!

And he is mauing on squishy raisins.  Who knew?

So it's been a little over two week and who would have guessed they're CHANGING!!  We've been watching them every day and wow, I'm not sure I needed to see it ALL!

Now I wish I could tell you that the pic you're about to see was taken by me.  I can't.  Basically I must have drilled the fact that "in THIS stage the butterflies CAN"T be disturbed" into BG's head so deep that she won't let me pick them up to photograph.  (moooohhhhaaaahaaaa....just wait till she goes to bed!) But I swear to you ours look JUST like this.  Weird alien fuzz ball hanging off and all. It's like some sad tail he couldn't keep.  awww:( 

 

Anywho,

We've got Chrystallides people and they just look BIZZARRE!    

Still Alive and Kickin'

We weren't sure they'd survive the community mailbox for 2 days, but so far we have 5 caterpillars and over 11 live larve! Let me tell you how excited I am to get to move those caterpillars once they turn into chrystallides.
