Hello out there? Anyone? Marcia? Angie?? You there? I mean why would you stop by... it's only been MONTHS since I've posted anything on here. And BOY have I heard about it! My only excuse is that taking the place of posting I've decided to update my decor.
For years I've been oooogling over my favorite design blogs [like my newest obsession Centsational Girl] and wondering what I can do. Well last weekend I broke out the spray paint and went to town on my kitchen. I had bought a refinished antique table at a yard sale earlier this year that I absolutely fell in LOVE with and wanted to be buried under... but after bringing it home to my kitchen... I kind of wanted to break up with it. The flow was ALL OFF. You'll see what I mean in a moment. It had me absolutely crazy... until I realized, IT WAS THE WOOD! So I sanded, sprayed, and staple gunned my way to kitchen bliss -- all of course forgetting to document the process. WOOPS!
BUT WAIT! There was one last piece of furniture that was yet to be made over and this one piece will explain all the rest :)
Can you spot it?? See that sore thumb -- over there, in the corner!
So here's my favorite perch BEFORE:
I've had this stool since I came to KC over 10 years ago -- pretty good shape eh? Well that's because it's been recovered during the candle wax spill of '02. That pretty green toille was the inspiration for my newly covered kitchen chairs, but I digress. It was time for another make over for my old friend and she was going black.
The frame on the map up there on the left was wood toned too... and as much as I love that map, she was killing the shei. So she was the first to get a makeover. Some frames and a mail holder were next. And now, duh duh duh duuuuuuuuuh...
First I removed the toille -- and then realized something I should have realized 7 years ago... that top cushion is removable! DUH!
I lightly sanded (I don't why but I remember reading you need to get the original varnish off... and I had sand paper so why not?)
And then painted with a flat black to match the map frame and antiqued table.
Check out her new look!
Before/After
See the little distressed marks -- You better enlarge it, so you can see 'em. I added those :)
What do you think??
